Why Meri Sanskriti? Because it’s a movement, it’s about what it means to BE Indian.

Meri Sanskriti is Indian Culture awareness…so what is Indian Culture? I believe it’s unity in diversity.

“I believe that it’s the fact that we can all live under one roof and still be together. We can all be brothers and sisters from different backgrounds and still be united as one and respect each other and where we come from and love one another at the same time.”

I believe that the beauty in India is the diversity that we have with with so many different states cultures and religions and that is what makes it so unique and so wonderful.

Yes, it may have started out as just one culture, but to see it evolve now to what it is with so many added cultures and fusions to have come along is really amazing. BUT…I believe it’s our job to make sure that our culture stays, and doesn’t fusion out to a point where it dissolves. And I think a large part of that is we are selves understanding the cultures within India and making an effort to learn about them and create awareness. Just by we ourselves being aware we add so much value. Because when we preserve Indian Cultures it’s preserving all the culture, all for one one for all. It’s not preserving just Hindi, or Bharatnatym dance. It’s all inclusive. I’ll talk more about that in my next article on how I believe India is more than just Bollywood and tikka masala.

Meri Sanskriti is about learning and embracing all aspects of heritage and culture. Heritage & Culture is a HUGE spectrum covering so many things including dance, arts, food, fashion, language, but one unifying factor behind it all is our thought process, and yes aside from the unnecessary programming(like judgement etc) Indians can have a good thought process.

When we break down culture, it comes down to the values and the school of thought that we carry as Indians. It doesn’t matter where you come from in India or what religion you are there is a school of thought that you carry being Indian and that is what has to be preserved. No matter what religion or state you are from, when you meet another Indian especially outside India, you bond. So what is it that we bond over?

After doing some observation and reading in my opinion, I believe that it’s just that, it’s appreciating the unity in diversity.

At some point we do appreciate the fact that we can all live under one roof and still be together. We can all be brothers and sisters from different backgrounds and still be united as one and respect each other and where we come from and love one another at the same time. And I think the more that we can make this effort to appreciate one another and love all through all mentality especially being Indian the more we can be united.

Now one thing I know is a common battle amongst Indians is we ourselves not knowing about the other cultures within India. We know our culture and we tend to generalize the other culture which we don’t know about.(they are NORTH, they are all Madrasi, they don’t know Hindi, they eat thepla all day)

But more and more now, I have seen when a “North Indian” meets a “South Indian”, they will still connect and bond over being Indian, appreciating & learning about each other’s cultures both being from India. And I believe that’s how it should be because the more that we are aware of our own culture and can appreciate our diversity the more we can also create awareness in the world.

It’s about loving whatever culture you come from and knowing that where you come from is valued and it is great. And at the same time, understanding that every person has their place in this world and we don’t need to feel like we are better than anyone else, we are all unique you’re all valuable. On a deeper level it’s appreciating yourself, but on a cultural and country level is appreciating where you come from and also appreciating others.

I believe we should take pride as Indians(and again pride from a loving perspective not egotistical) that we belong to a country that represents what humanity needs right now(including our own country.) Taking a step back to appreciate our unity in diversity.

Sincerely,

“The Indian Girl”
